About to import diodes, thyristors or other power electronic products from China? In this article, we cover everything startups, and other small businesses must know:
- Product categories
- How to find the right supplier on Google or Bing
- Buying private label power electronic products
- Customizing design
- Industrial standards and labels
- MOQ Requirements
- Trade shows for power semiconductors
Product Categories
Power semiconductor manufacturers all tend to be specialized in a certain niche.
While they may cover one or more categories, you should only be on the lookout for suppliers making your type of SCRs or diodes.
A few examples follow below:
- Standard Recovery Diodes/General-purpose Diodes/Rectifier Diodes
- Fast Recovery Diodes
- Avalanche Diodes
- Welding Diodes
- Phase Control Thyristors/Silicon Controlled Rectifier SCR
- Triac Thyristors
- Fast Switching Thyristors
- Asymmetric Thyristors
- Pulse Power Thyristors
- Bridge Rectifiers
- Thyristor Diode Modules
- Intelligent Power Modules
- Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor IGBT
Most manufacturers are either making diodes and thyristors in stud, disc or module housings. These suppliers also often produce bridge rectifiers and other related power electronics.
Power Semiconductor Devices Supplier List
Below follows an overview of some established suppliers in China:
- Yueqing Shenzhou Rectifier Co., Ltd.
- Shanghai Tianzheng Rectifier Co., Ltd.
- Wenzhou Maylson Electric Co., Ltd.
- Zhejiang Sifang Electronic Co., Ltd.
- Hubei Techsem Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
- Yangzhou Yangjie Electronic Technology Co., Ltd.
As you can see above, these suppliers are concentrated in the Yangtze River delta, and Zhejiang and Shanghai particularly.
Diodes & thyristors Customization Options
When importing diodes and Thyristors from China, you can either buy an ODM or OEM product. Keep reading to learn the difference.
Option A: ODM (Private Label)
Most of our customers in this category buy ODM products, and it is the fast track to launch a product, as it’s based on a factory designed product – not a custom design.
These are the products you see when browsing Google.com or Bing.com.
There are, however, quality differences between each supplier. Most suppliers provide relatively detailed characteristics and specifications, such as the following:
- Type: Standard Recovery Diode
- IF(AV): 800A
- Case style: A-PUK
- Circuit configuration: Single
- IF(RMS): 1435A
- IFSM@50Hz: 8250A
- IFSM@60Hz: 8640A
- I2t@50Hz: 340kA2s
- I2t@60Hz: 311kA2s
- VRRM: 400 to 2400V
- Tj: -40 to +190°C
Source: Wenzhou Maylson Electric Co., Ltd.
ODM products also allow some customization, such as packages and logos.
Option B: OEM (Custom Design)
Nearly every rectifier diodes and SCRs manufacturer on Google and Bing are OEM manufacturers, at their core.
It means that they can make any product based on your design and technical requirements.
However, don’t expect them to develop your product ideas for you.
Most manufacturers will not even respond unless you can show the following:
- Housing design files
- Logo design
- PCB schematic
- Bill of Materials
Sourcing on Google.com and Bing.com
Google.com and Bing.com are the two largest search engines in the world. Virtually every export-focused diodes and SCRs manufacturer in China are listed on these websites.
There are so many suppliers on the internet that it can be overwhelming.
That said, there are ways to identify those that are the most qualified:
a. Product Scope: Are they making your type of diodes and SCRs?
b. Product Compliance: Do they have RoHS or other test reports? (This indicates that they can make compliant products).
c. Quality Management System: Are they ISO 9001 certified?
d. Social Compliance: Are they certified?
e. Factory or Trader: Are they making power electronics, or are they only subcontracting production to another company?
f. National Industrial Product Production License: Does the Chinese government license them to make diodes and thyristors for industrial purposes?
Based on these factors, you can filter down the list of potential manufacturers to 10 or 12.
That’s a lot more than the 2340,000 results from thousands of suppliers and hundreds of exhibitors for “Thyristor manufacturer China” on Google.com.
Unit Pricing
A few price examples follow below:
- Stud diodes: $2 – $60
- Disc thyristors: $15 – $300
- Bridge Rectifiers: $0.5 – $70
The price estimate is based on a small order volume of 10 pcs.
MOQ Requirement
Most manufacturers require that their buyers order at least 10 to 50 units per order.
Some suppliers may be willing to offer a slightly lower MOQ (100 pcs), but less than that is very rare.
Power Semiconductors Trade Shows
Manufacturers in this industry attend many of the larger electronics shows in Shanghai and Hong Kong:
- Electronica China Shanghai
- Hong Kong Electronics Fair
- SNEC International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Conference & Exhibition
- PCIM Asia Shanghai
- Beijing Essen Welding & Cutting Fair
